What does copyright mean exactly?
A “copyright” is the exclusive right for a song writer to copy his or her creative music work, in a limited time and few exceptions. A copyright gives the song writer a partial monopoly over their musical works. The goal is to protect the original author of a musical composition from having his work copied during this protection time.
This said, there is the case of recording artist. He shares the copyrights with the song writer if they are not the same person. These two copyrights are: composition (song), and sound recording (record). So 100% of the copyrights go exclusively to the song writer and the song recorder.
